What to Expect During the Dental Implant Process

Dental implants are a long-lasting solution for missing or severely damaged teeth, designed to look, feel, and function just like natural teeth. The process begins with a comprehensive exam and digital imaging to evaluate bone health and determine the ideal placement location. Once approved, a small titanium post is surgically placed into the jawbone, where it integrates over time to create a strong, stable foundation.

After healing, an abutment and custom-made crown are attached to complete the restoration. The result is a durable tooth replacement that supports jaw health, improves chewing ability, and enhances the appearance of your smile. Implants offer a permanent alternative to bridges or dentures and help maintain facial structure for long-term oral wellness.

Your Dental Implant Procedure: Safe, Precise & Natural-Looking

Dental implants are placed with advanced techniques designed for comfort, accuracy, and long-term success. From guided implant placement to modern anesthetic options, every step is performed to support a smooth experience and strong, natural-looking results. Learn what to expect during the implant procedure below.

  • Implant Placement & Healing

A small titanium post is carefully positioned into the jawbone, where it will integrate over time to create a secure foundation. Most patients can resume normal activities within a short period, and healing typically progresses comfortably with proper care.

  • Abutment & Custom Crown

Once healing is complete, an abutment and a custom-designed crown are attached to finish the restoration. The final result looks and functions like a natural tooth, allowing you to smile, eat, and speak with confidence.

Post-Implant Care for a Smooth, Successful Recovery

After your implant is placed, the healing process begins as the implant integrates with the jawbone. Mild pressure and soreness are normal for the first few days. To protect the area, avoid disturbing the implant site — no smoking, drinking through straws, or vigorous rinsing for the first 72 hours. Stick to soft foods and chew away from the implant side while early healing takes place.

Some swelling, tenderness, or light bruising may occur and usually peaks within 48 hours. Applying an ice pack intermittently and taking recommended medications will help manage discomfort. Keep the area clean by gently rinsing with warm salt water beginning the day after surgery, unless instructed otherwise.

Continue gentle brushing and flossing, avoiding direct contact with the surgical site until cleared by your dentist. Good oral hygiene is essential to prevent infection and promote successful healing. If you experience persistent swelling, severe pain, loosening of the implant, or any unusual symptoms, contact the office right away.
